Who we are

What we collect

Once you agree, the app collects usage and diagnostic data so we can operate, analyse, and improve it:

• Usage and activity — the screens you view, the actions you take, and the trips, routes, stops, and searches you make in the app.
• Device and technical information — device and operating system type, app version, language, network and connection diagnostics, and a random identifier generated for your installation.
• Location — your device's location, including your precise location where you have granted that permission, used to find nearby stops, to plan journeys from where you are, and to understand and improve how the app performs in real conditions. An approximate, city-level location is also derived from your network (IP) address. Note that the places, stops, and routes you look up can themselves indicate where you are or where you are going.
• Performance and error information — crashes, error types, and diagnostic logs.
• App interactions — the interactions you make (taps, scrolls, the screens you view and the order you visit them) together with the structure and text of those screens.
• Feedback you choose to send — the message you write, an optional screenshot of the current screen, and any name or email you choose to add. This is content you provide, so please include only what you are comfortable sharing — and you can remove the screenshot before sending.

The data is therefore pseudonymous: linked to a random per-installation identifier, not to your real-world identity.

Location

The app asks for location permission so it can find stops and services near you and plan journeys from where you are. Depending on the permission you grant, this may be your precise location, and it forms part of the usage and diagnostic data described above.

You stay in control through your device settings: you can grant an approximate location instead of a precise one, or refuse location altogether. The app remains usable either way, but features that depend on where you are will be limited or unavailable.

If you turn on optional arrival alerts, your device watches the area around your chosen stops and wakes the app to check arrival times. You can stop this at any time by turning the alerts off or changing your device permissions.

What we do not collect

• No name, email address, phone number, or account credentials — the app has no accounts or sign-in.
• No payment information — subscriptions are handled by the App Store or Google Play, and we never see your card or billing details.
• We do not use advertising identifiers and do not track you across other apps or websites.

Why we collect it

Solely to operate, maintain, secure, and improve BusBuddy — to understand which features are used, to find and fix errors and performance problems, and to decide what to improve next. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Legal basis

We rely on your consent, obtained through the in-app agreement before any data is collected. You may decline by not using the app, and you may withdraw consent at any time (see below).

Service providers

Information collected through the app may be transferred to the following classes of persons, in each case only so far as necessary for the purposes above: providers of cloud hosting and storage; analytics and product measurement; crash reporting, error monitoring, and performance monitoring; application-security services; and any person to whom we are required or permitted to disclose it by law.

Each provider processes the information on our behalf and on our instructions only, under contractual arrangements requiring confidentiality and security and prohibiting use for its own purposes, and some store or process it outside Hong Kong. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Retention

We keep this data only for as long as it is needed for the purposes described above, after which it is deleted or aggregated.

Your choices and rights

• Withdraw consent: uninstall the app. This stops all further collection.

Children

BusBuddy is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we materially change what we collect, we will update this policy and ask you to agree again the next time you open the app (the consent record is versioned).
