行路 Walking Buddy Privacy Policy
行路 Walking Buddy (行路 Buddy on your home screen) plans walks around Hong Kong: the quickest, the most covered, without stairs, or step-free. This policy explains what the app sends, where it goes, what stays on your device, and the choices you have. The app has no accounts and no advertising, and it never tracks you across other apps or websites. To find and fix problems, it records how the app is used (see Session recordings).

行路 Walking Buddy is provided by Jigsaw Tech Limited. Contact for privacy questions: privacy@jigsawtech.app.
Your location
Walks start from where you are, so the app asks for your location, including your precise location where you grant that permission. It uses it to set the start of each walk and to show where you are on the route.
- Only while you are using the app. The app never asks for or uses your location in the background.
- When you plan a walk, its start and end points are sent to the walking-route services described below, which work out the routes. The app never sends us your location's coordinates, but session recordings and feedback screenshots show the app's screens, including the map with where you are and your walk (see below).
- You can grant an approximate location instead of a precise one, or turn location off, in your device settings. Without location, the app can't plan walks.
What leaves your device, and where it goes
To work, the app asks public map and route services for information. These requests go straight from your phone:
- Planning a walk — the start and end points go to the Hong Kong Government's walking-route service. The app also asks the government's pedestrian-network maps about the area around your route (stairs, lifts, crossings and cover).
- Searching for a place — what you type (from two characters) goes to the Hong Kong Government's address-lookup service, to suggest matching places.
- The map — the map images for the area on your screen come from a map-image provider.
Like any internet request, these carry your network (IP) address. The government services are independent public services and handle requests under their own privacy policies; the map-image provider serves the map for us. None of these requests carry your name, an account or an advertising ID.
Feedback you choose to send
You can send us feedback by shaking your phone or from Settings. Nothing is sent unless you write a message and tap Send. A report then contains:
- the message you write;
- your email address, only if you choose to add it, so we can reply;
- a screenshot of the screen you were on, which can show your walk and the map around you. You can remove it before sending;
- the names of the places the walk starts and ends at (a start from where you are is sent as “your location”), which walk options were shown, and the app's language, so we can see what you saw. No map coordinates are attached;
- the app version, the phone model, and the operating system and its version;
- a random ID made when the app is installed (it identifies the installation, not you, and a new one is made if you reinstall).
This is content you provide, so please include only what you are comfortable sharing. Reports are processed by our feedback provider, stored in the European Union, and our provider is set not to store your network (IP) address.
Crash reports
If the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a report to our error-monitoring provider automatically, so we can find and fix the problem. A report contains:
- what went wrong and where in the app's code;
- a short list of technical events just before it, such as the app going to the background (not what you typed);
- the app version, the phone model, and the operating system and its version;
- the same random installation ID as a feedback report.
The report itself carries no screenshot, location or the places of your walk; the session recording below shows what was on the screen. An error's own message can occasionally include part of what the app was handling at the time, such as the name of a place you searched for. Crash reports are stored in the European Union, and our provider is set not to store your network (IP) address.
Session recordings
To see how the app is used and where it goes wrong, the app records each time you use it and sends the recording to our error-monitoring provider. A recording contains:
- the app's screens as you use them: what you see and tap, including the map, where you are on it, and your walks;
- what you type in the app, such as the places you search for (and a feedback message or email address while you write it);
- technical events, such as the app going to the background, and any errors;
- the app version, the phone model, and the operating system and its version;
- the same random installation ID as a feedback or crash report.
Only the app's own screens are recorded, and only while it is open: never other apps, notifications, sound or the camera. Recordings are stored in the European Union, and our provider is set not to store your network (IP) address.
What stays on your device
- Recent places — the places you picked, so you can choose them again quickly.
- Saved places and walks — the ones you save, until you remove them.
- Your settings — the app's language and other preferences.
These are stored only in the app's own storage on your device; deleting the app deletes them.
What we do not collect
- No name, phone number, or account credentials — the app has no accounts or sign-in.
- Nothing else: apart from feedback you send, crash reports and session recordings, the app sends nothing to us.
- No location in the background, and no contacts, photos, files or calendar.
- We do not use advertising identifiers and do not track you across other apps or websites.
If you allow your phone to share diagnostics with app developers, Apple or Google may show us anonymous crash and performance statistics; that is governed by your phone's settings and their policies.
Why we use it
Solely to plan your walks, to read, answer and act on the feedback you send, to find and fix crashes and errors, and to see how the app is used so we can improve it. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who receives it
Information from the app may be transferred to the following classes of persons, in each case only so far as necessary for the purposes above: the Hong Kong Government's mapping, walking-route and address-lookup services, as described above; a provider of map images; a provider of feedback, error monitoring and session recording, which processes reports and recordings on our behalf and on our instructions only; and any person to whom we are required or permitted to disclose it by law. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
Retention
- Your location and searches — we do not keep them, apart from what session recordings and feedback reports show.
- Crash reports — deleted automatically after at most 90 days.
- Session recordings — deleted automatically after at most 90 days.
- Feedback — deleted automatically after at most 90 days. If we reply by email, we keep the conversation only as long as needed to deal with it.
- What is on your device — until you uninstall the app.
Your choices
- Location: grant approximate instead of precise, or turn it off, in your device settings.
- Feedback: it is always optional; leave out your email or remove the screenshot before sending.
- Delete: uninstall the app to remove everything it has stored. To have feedback you sent, or crash reports or session recordings from your phone, deleted sooner, email privacy@jigsawtech.app with the email address you gave, or roughly when you sent it or used the app.
Children
行路 Walking Buddy is not directed at children, has no accounts, and does not ask anyone, including children, for personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we change what the app sends or keeps, we will update this page before the change reaches the app, and change the date above.
